The Yuba County Academic Decathlon was held on Saturday, February 1st at Marysville High School. Teams from Lindhurst, Marysville, Wheatland and Yuba City Charter High School tested their knowledge on the 2020 Academic Decathlon theme: In Sickness and In Health: An Exploration of Illness and Wellness. The Academic Decathlon is an academic competition for students in grades 9 through 12. Students compete as team members in a series of academic tests and demonstrations. Each team consists of three “A” (Honor), three “B” (Scholastic), and three “C” or below (Varsity) students. Awards are presented to the top teams as well as the top individual students in each event. Marysville High School came out on top with the highest overall points per school totaling 33,117. Zoe Rosales from Marysville High School who competed in the Honor Division won gold medals in Speech, Interview, Science, Essay, Economics, Language & Literature. Sean Simeroth from Marysville High School who competed in the Scholastic Division won medals in Speech, Math, Science, Art, Economics, Social Science, Language & Literature. Sage Houshmand from Marysville High School competing in the Varsity Division won medals in Speech, Art, Economics, Essay, Social Science, Language & Literature. Marysville High School will compete at the California Academic Decathlon in Sacramento on March 26th – 29th.
