Longtime Yuba County resident and certified appraiser, Steve Souza, will run for Yuba County Assessor in 2018.
The assessor position is unique in that it requires candidates to have an appraiser’s license.
Souza is the owner of Steve Souza Appraisals and has earned three appraisal designations including Certified Real Estate Appraiser (CREA), Senior Residential Appraiser (SRA) and California Certified Real Estate Appraiser (CRREA.) He is recognized as an Expert Witness on real estate in our regional Superior Courts.
“I’ve personally appraised over 16,000 properties in Yuba County and throughout Northern California,” said Souza. “I’ll be the first Assessor in a long time that will have firsthand knowledge of many residential properties that come across my desk.”
If elected, Souza’s main priorities will focus on increased communication with the public, improved relations with business and real estate industry organizations, and frequent updates to the assessor’s website. Souza hopes to use his business experience to work closely with the staff and streamline any cumbersome and costly government procedures in the assessor’s department.
Souza is a member of the National Association of Real Estate Appraisers and the Real Estate Appraiser Association, Sacramento Chapter, and an affiliate member of the Sutter/Yuba Board of Realtors.
Souza has been a Reserve Yuba County Deputy Sheriff for almost 20 years, and was a Volunteer Firefighter in Dobbins-Oregon House for 5 years. He holds two black belts and was an instructor for the Tae Kwon Do studios in Marysville and Oregon House.
Steve is a member and past officer of the Knights of Columbus, a former little league and soccer coach, 4H leader, and has acted in many productions with the Ponderosa Community Theater Group.
“I believe God had a hand in crafting my life experience,” said Souza. “I’ve worked across the fields of business, community and government, giving me the knowledge and experience to competently represent the citizens of Yuba County as their Assessor.”
Steve and his wife Pam live in Loma Rica and just celebrated their 40th anniversary. They have four children and five grandchildren.
