The greater Yuba-Sutter area is blessed with a very diverse and extremely talented group of local musicians. A music lover can hear live music somewhere nearby just about every night of the week. Often there are multiple events going on. With the open mics being held at the new Skip’s Music Café in Marysville on Wednesday evenings, and the events hosted by Joe Moye and Clark Buschman and Music in the Park concerts in Yuba City and Marysville, there’s lots of great music all around. Many local restaurants and bars feature live bands and Ed Hudson has a new music show on 93Q Radio on Sunday afternoons featuring local musicians. Geez! So much music, so little time.
So why did Yuba Sutter Arts throw its hat in the ring and introduce its “Music Everywhere” series? Enter Gay Galvin, Yuba Sutter Arts’ Musician in Residence. Gay is a well know jazz pianist, vocalist and music educator and performs locally both as a soloist and as part of many ensembles. In addition to running the monthly “Jazz Jams” at the Burrows Theater, she and her musician husband, Tom, produce a variety of concerts each year. Gay is the curator of the “Music Everywhere” series and does an outstanding job of bringing some less well known artists to the forefront.
“We wanted to introduce and feature some musicians that don’t quite fit into the usual mold,” said David Read, YSA Executive Director. “The ‘Music Everywhere’ musicians will typically be solo acts with an occasional duo and often they’ll be playing non-traditional music. They are jazz musicians, singer/ songwriters, virtuoso instrumentalists or even blues players,” he added.
