Currently 12 students are taking a night time welding class taught by Jeff Magill,
retired Ag Teacher/FFA Advisor from Wheatland Union High School at the newly
constructed welding shop at the Yuba County Charter School in Marysville. The
beautiful shop designed by Ken Hamel, CTE director, and Anthony Beeler, daytime
instructor is working out well for the evening class focusing on professional level
welding certifications through the AWS (American welding society). Mr. Magill
who taught at Wheatland Union High School for 29 years, 36 years total teaching,
is a certified welding inspector (CWI) through the AWS. These international
certifications are mainly focused on 3/8” and 1” plate and 3” and 5” pipe.
Certifications earned in this class are good throughout the world. The class meets
every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6-9 PM at the welding shop at the
Yuba County Charter School. Student Matt Napierski has earned the most certs
so far at 8. With a value of $175 each out in the real world that equals $1400
worth of professional level welding certifications-all covered in the class. Cost of
