News From the Brownsville Bailiwick & Beyond

Craft workshops will begin at Books & More next Saturday. They are still in the planning stage but are planned to meet each Saturday from 10 to about noon. The knitting group will meet Sept. 28, Oct. 19 and November 16. Geney Holly will lead a workshop on Christmas cards on Sept 21. There will be a $5.00 fee for materials on that project. We will be lining up other artists and crafters as time progresses. There will be a new list of raffle prizes, too, so come by and buy a few tickets.

The Draft Horse Classic & Harvest Festival, held at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, starts on Thursday, September 19 and runs through Sunday, September 22. There will be shows, displays, music, crafters, food, beverages and more. Entrance into the fairgrounds and the harvest festival is free. Tickets for the shows can be purchased on the fairground website. The hours are Thursday and Friday, 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 am – 9:00 pm. Bring the whole family for a day of “Horsin’ Around”.

Brownsville Trunks with Treats, on Thursday, October 31st, will be sponsored by Gold Eagle Markets, Oregon House Store and Foothill Firefighters Association. There will be a haunted house, bounce house, games, food and beverages. It will be set up in the parking lot of the Foothill Fire Department on Willow Glen Rd. The event will start at 5:00 pm and run until 8:00 pm, rain or shine. Right now, they are looking for help for the set up and tear down, and candy donations. If you wish to bring your vehicle and hand out candy to the “little ghoulies”, there will also be spaces available at Brownsville Mercantile and Books & More parking lots. Dress up, decorate your vehicle and come make this a fantastic Halloween for our Foothill kids.

Look Back in Time – In 1898 Justice E. B. Spark in court at Challenge Mills dismissed the case against Mr. Rebot for battery on Worth Bainbridge of Rackerby (wonder if they shook hands).

Hope to see in Brownsville soon.       Christine and Yvonne
